Tremendous Thursday!!!
We began the day working on our summative projects.
Next we had French and then Gym.
After first recess and lunch we reviewed
what we learned yesterday about slides. When learning about motion geometry it
is important to understand how a figure has moved (slide, turn, rotation).
Today our focus was on how a figure has turned. We learned that when an object
turns, it can turn a quarter, half way, make a three quarter turn and/or make a
full turn. We also learned that a turn is a rotation that moves a figure around
a turn centre. After 1 full turn, a figure is back to where it started. A turn
can be described in terms of the fraction of a turn that the figure moves (for
example, quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn). A turn can be described
by the direction in which the figure moves (clockwise or counter clockwise).
As
a class we worked on some questions together and then played a game using our
bodies to better understand turns. Ms. Jaskolka called out quarter turn, half
turn, or three quarter turn and we tried our best to turn our bodies the
correct way.
