Fantastic Friday!

We began the day with our special surprise!!!! The whole of Grade 6 has been working so hard and today we were able to watch a movie related to our UOI on electricity; City of Ember, the book that we read as our novel study this term. We were able to compare and contrast the book and the novel and make further connections between the book/movie and our electricity unit.

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we worked on our mid-unit review on Geometry and Measurement.

Then we had Music.

When we returned, we continued working on our mid-unit review on Geometry and Measurement.

After second recess and lunch we had more time, if needed, to work on our mid-unit review.

Then we went to explore the Grade 5 final project on Ancient Civilizations. They were to create an artifact that was used in ancient times that we still use today!

Homework:

1.    Read Daily

2.    Mid-unit Review

Tremendous Thursday!!

Tomorrow students are being asked to come dressed in the pyjamas and to bring a pillow for a special surprise.

We began the day with math. We continued our explorations of polyhedrons. We used the 3-D shapes we made yesterday to answer questions about their attributes: faces (how many and what kind), edges, vertices, parallel faces, congruent faces, and/or perpendicular faces. All relevant vocabulary was given to the students and is in their duo tang.

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we continued with math.

Then we continued working on preparing for student led conferences.

After second recess and lunch we had physical education.

Have a great night!

Wonderful Wednesday!

We began the day with Math. We began learning about polyhedron, polyhedra  (plural)
polyhedra are solid three-dimensional shapes with plane (flat) faces.
• common polyhedra include the five regular polyhedral called the Platonic solids also known as regular polyhedra, prisms and pyramids.

In our groups we constructed 9 polyhedra and tomorrow we are going to use the shapes to describe them.

Next, we had French.

After first recess and lunch we wrote the last page of our report card reflecting on what we learned, what we improved on, and what we had the most fun doing this term.
Then we continued preparing for our student-led conferences.
After second recess and lunch we has physical education.
Stay warm out there!!

Tremendous Tuesday!

We began the day with Math. We continued to learn about how to draw 3-D objects and figures using isometric paper and working on problem solving questions related to this.

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we had a conversation about student-led conferences occurring next Thursday. For student-led conferences we, the students, will be leading the conference. We know ourselves best and our strengths and areas of improvement so we will be explaining those areas to our parents.

Then we had Music.

When we returned we worked on our student led conferences, reflecting on our areas of strength and improvement and on our work habits and social skills. Based on this information we are setting up goals and how we can improve. We continued working on our student for the rest of the afternoon.

Homework:

1.    Read Daily
2.    Finish Questions 6 and 7 on pages 86-87 (most completed in class)
3.    Math sheets
4.    Bake sale tomorrow

Monday November 26, 2018

Marvelous Monday!

We began the day with math.

Today's focus: to sketch pictures of objects from models and drawings

Students created different 3-D figures with isometric dot paper and the front, top, side and bottom view.

Students also practiced sketching a 3-D image of a rectangular prism and a mug. Students then worked on questions related to this lesson.

Today’s goals:

-I can use isometric dot paper to show three dimensions of an object
-I can do a pictorial drawing using translations of a view to give the impression of three dimensions
-I can sketch the top, bottom, side, front and back view of a three-dimensional figure
-I understand how many sides a figure has and I can use this understanding to answer problem solving questions

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we prepared for our air show!!

Then we had music.

Next, we had our air show to see which plane could fly the farthest!!!!

It was incredible to see the students applying their understanding of flight and how planes fly to the building of their paper airplanes.

Students then reflected on how well their plane performed during the air show based on the concepts of flight learned during our unit.

After second recess and lunch we reflected on our Flight unit by drawing and writing about our favourite part of this unit and how we displayed the learner profiles and attitudes during the unit.

Homework:

1.    Read Daily
2.    Math Questions 1-5 on pages 86-87
3.    Bake Sale tomorrow
4.    Casual day Wednesday

5.    Reflections sheet due tomorrow
