Tremendous Tuesday!

We began the day with math.

Learning Goals: to apply my understanding of experimental and theoretical probability

Students played a game to gain a better understanding of experimental and theoretical probability:

If the sum is less than or equal to the product of the two numbers, Player A gets a point.
If the sum is greater than the product, Player B gets a point.

Before playing:
Who is more likely to win? Why? (hint: does adding or multiplying normally get you a greater answer? __________________________________________________________________

How can you use probability to decide who is most likely to win? Create a tree diagram!!!

Card 1                          Card 2                          Outcomes                   Sum                 Product
                                    2                                  1, 2                                 3                       2
1                                  3                                  1, 3                                 4                       3
                                    4                                  1,4                                  5                       4

Use this information to find out the probability of player A and player B winning. Is it an equal chance? Remember: If the sum is less than or equal to the product of the two numbers, Player A gets a point. If the sum is greater than the product, Player B gets a point.

Play the game!!!

We also went through some examples as a class to ensure we understand how to make a tree diagram and answer probability related questions.

Students then completed questions in their textbook.

Success Criteria:
I understand
-when probability is expressed as a percent, the word “chance” is used
-the probability of an impossible outcome is 0. The probability of an outcomes that is certain is 1.

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we began writing a speech for graduation. We worked in group to highlight the many different aspects of Grade 6. We will continue tomorrow.

At the end of the day we had physical education with Mr. Orr.

Homework:

1.    Read Daily
2.    Math textbook and sheet lessons 11.4
3.    Raptor day tomorrow
