Tremendous Thursday!
We began the day reading a book
that Julia brought in related to our migration unit and cultures unit!! Wow
double action!!!!
Malala and the Magic Pencil
As a child in Pakistan, Malala made a wish for a magic pencil.
She would use it to make everyone happy, to erase the smell of garbage from her
city, to sleep an extra hour in the morning. But as she grew older, Malala saw
that there were more important things to wish for. She saw a world that needed
fixing. And even if she never found a magic pencil, Malala realized that she
could still work hard every day to make her wishes come true.
This beautifully illustrated story tells Malala's journey of
hope even in the most difficult of times!!! She taught us that one person CAN
make a difference and that one voice CAN be heard as long as you do not give
up!!! Malala started a worldwide movement because she decided to speak for
those who were too scared to stand up for their rights (ex: girls education).
We really learned the importance of appreciating all the things
that we have and we had a lengthy conversation about how lucky we are to have
all the things we need and also many of our wants. We talked about how there
are children in the world who do not have clean water, food, a home, education
and so much more. Ms. Jaskolka was very impressed with all the ways our class
wants to help those in need over the holiday season (Give toys to children in
need).
We were then off to Gym.
After first recess and lunch we continued working on our
multiplication and division math review.
After second lunch we watched the Oakwood Christmas Concert.
They did an amazing job!!!!
At the end of the day Isabella performed action!!! We
read a book that she brought in related to our cultures unit!!!
