Tremendous Tuesday!

We began the day writing a pre-assessment for our upcoming writing unit.

We were then off to French and then Gym.

After first recess and lunch, we first began our math lesson using place value follow me cards. We beat our time from last week!!! We were able to complete the follow me cards as a team in 5 minutes and 28 seconds!!! Next, as a whole class, we modeled two digit numbers using base ten blocks and then a place value mat ensuring to put the tens and ones in the correct column. We then worked in partners and gave each other two digit numbers and we used base ten blocks or white board markers to model each number on a place value mat. We had so much fun working together!

We then worked on some place value questions in our math textbook.

After second recess and lunch watched two videos about the importance of being a good citizen and how we can go about being good citizens.

Here are the links if you would like to enjoy them at home:

Monday September 11, 2017

Magnificent Monday!!

We began the day taking attendance. Today Lizzie taught us all how to say hello in Russian!! We all greeted Ms. Jaskolka in Russian today!

We then worked on our spelling words and practicing our cursive.

Next we were off to Gym with Ms. J.

After first recess and lunch we had Music with Mr. Oliver.

Next we began our first unit in math: Patterning and Place Value.
During today’s lesson students learned how to group and count numbers up until 100.  Students worked in groups and counted Popsicle sticks. Students quickly figured out that by grouping the Popsicle sticks by five or ten, it became a lot easier to count how many Popsicle sticks we were given. We then repeated this activity with beans, but first we estimated how many beans we were given and then we checked to see if our estimate was correct. We then showed our knowledge and understanding by answering questions from the math textbook.

After first recess and lunch we dove into our unit of inquiry. During UOI, we explored how a community is impacted by the involvement of its members. We discussed some of the important members of our community and then we played a game on the tablets to learn more about some important members of our community and how they impact our community (police officer, fire fighter, gardener, teacher, farmer, doctor, garbage collector, postal worker, plumber, grocer, mechanic and baker).

At the end of the day we had French with Mme. Stella.
