Tremendous Thursday!!

A reminder that our trip to Loblaws is tomorrow. Students are asked to be at the school by 8:30. Students are asked to come in their full uniform and to bring a disposable lunch.

We will be back at school at 12pm so we will still have our Spelling test

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

We then looked at a clock and explored the second, minute, and hour hand. We discussed that the three hands show seconds, minutes, and hours. We learned how each hand affects each other. One full turn of the minute hand moves the hour hand to the next number. We discussed how there are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute. We counted as a class around the clock to make sure. We also learned how the hour hand travels twice around the clock. We know there are 24 hours in a day and there are only 12 numbers on the clock. We know 12 + 12 is 24 so then the hour hand needs to go around the clock twice. We then did two activities and we counted the number of times we could do each one in one minute; we wrote our whole name and drew a house. We also predicted what would take us less then a minute, about a minute, and more than a minute.

Next, we had physical education with Mr.H.

When students returned, we tested our predictions.

Following first recess and lunch, we had our pictures taken.

We then had Music.

After, we got ourselves moving by playing Simon Says with fun yet physical activities. We were asked to do various activities, such as, do the strangest dance you can think of, walk like a bear on all 4s, hop like a frog.

After second recess and lunch, we continued working on our brainstorms from yesterday about a newly invented toy and then began our rough copies.

Wonderful Wednesday!!

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

We then moved onto Math. In Math, we explored the length of time that certain tasks take. Students answered what takes longer: lining up for recess or recess itself? What would take a shorter time: eating lunch or walking to the door? What would take less time: walking across the room or singing “Happy Birthday.” We figured out that it was singing happy birthday. We also used a pendulum to see how many swings it took to do certain tasks: write our name, draw and colour in a circle, say the alphabet.

We then estimated how long it took to blink our eyes 10 times, draw a face, sing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” put on our coat, wash our hands. Then we used a pendulum to see how many swings it took us to do each activity. Using the pendulum, we were able to explore how quick seconds move.

We then had physical education with Mr. H.

We then continued with our Math.

After first recess and lunch, we continued calming our minds and our bodies with yoga. We explored how to perform more yoga poses as a group. After, we worked with a partner to review the various yoga poses that we learned.

When we returned, we reviewed how to write a proper explanation as a class. After, we discussed how we would go about writing an explanation for a newly invented toy. We then used our imagination to invent our own toy; today we focused on getting all our ideas out using a brainstorm.

After second recess and lunch, we read chapter 14 and 15 of Charlotte’s Web. When we were finished, we began writing a summary of chapter 15.

Terrific Tuesday!

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

We then wrote an assessment to show Ms. Jaskolka what we know about our next unit: Time, Temperature, and Money.

We then had physical education with Mr. H.

In Math, we began our third unit: Time, Temperature, Money. First our focus will be time. We looked at a picture of a farm and students imagined that they were visiting a farm. They were asked: which takes more time: picking an apple or growing an apple from blossom to fruit? Which takes more time: riding a bus out to the apple farm or eating an apple? Which is colder: an apple on the tree or an apple in the refrigerator? Which is a warmer time: summer or spring? As a class we made up a story about going to the farm: We are going to visit the apple farm. First we will get on the bus. Then what will we do? As a class, we listed more things on the board. We noticed how the events were all in order of when they happened. We discussed which takes the most time and the least time. Students also completed one page in their Math Makes Sense.

Following first recess and lunch, we wrote our homework in our agenda and completed any unfinished work.

We then had Music.

After, we joined Ms. Baimas’ class for UOI (Unit of inquiry). Our current UOI focuses on our amazing bodies and so we are learning and exploring how we can eat healthy, stay active, and take care of our mind and feelings. Today we performed various yoga poses to help us calm our mind and bodies. While we performed these various poses, we tried our best to take deep breaths. Here we are:

Following second recess and lunch, students worked on their good copies of their banana explanations.

Students then worked on explaining their healthy super hero in their journals. In their journals, students are focusing on using proper writing conventions and staying on topic.
