Tremendous Thursday!!!!
We began the day with our monthly
Learner Profile awards; for March, our learner profile was Caring. Julia and
Arya both received the caring award!!! Congratulations!!
Next we had an eggcellent house
game!!!! Check it out!!!
When we came to class we talked
about our fun and eggciting weekends!!!
Next we had French.
When we returned, we learned
about contractions. A contraction is two words combined into one. One or more
letters are dropped. A mark called an apostrophe (‘) replaces the missing
letters. As a class, we looked at our list words for the week and came to
understand the two words that made up each contraction. We then worked in our
Spelling workbook.
After first recess and lunch we
had Music.
For math today we looked at growing pattern with geometric
figures. Students started to investigate this last week during our activity
centres.
First, we displayed a pattern of circles, the first with
one circle, then two, then three, which grew horizontally. Students accurately
figured out that the next frame would be four circle horizontally. We then
discussed that when you draw each picture it is called a frame.
Students then worked in partners and made growing patterns
using pattern blocks. Here, we tackled some misconceptions through our inquiry
that the growing patterns must all be growing the same way each time; this
means that it can't grow horizontally, the vertically, then vertically. It's
not a growing pattern then.
After second recess and lunch we watched a Bill Nye video
about structures. We learned so much about structures and how they are all
around us!! We even learned about natural structures like plants!!!! We
discussed the important points as a class. We talked about how strong structures need a solid, wide base.
When building structures, we can use many different
materials for buildings, but some need extra support in their structural
components.
At the end of the day we had an Easter egg hunt!!
See you all tomorrow!!
