Next we
had French.
After
we headed over to the career’s day presentation. This presentation informed us
of the amazing professional opportunities available to us when we get older!!!!
Following
first recess and lunch we dove into our new math unit: Length, Perimetre and
Area. Today students learned how to measure length in
centimetres. First we discussed where we have heard the term centimetres before. Ms.
Jaskolka modeled for us how to use a ruler to measure using centimetres. Then students
practiced using a ruler by measurement body parts! We used an observation chart
to record our measurements of body parts in pairs (hand, thumb, arm, leg, foot,
nose).
We also discussed benchmark lengths
that can be used to help estimate a length:
Finger – 1 cm wide
Classroom door – 100cm wide
Next, we played a measuring game in
partners! We found objects around the classroom that were less than 30cm. We
each made a prediction about the length of the object, and the partner that had
the closest estimate moved forward on the game board!!!
After Math we continued our
structure presentations.
Following second recess and lunch
we continued with our structure presentations. At the end of the day, we read chapter
two of our novel study: A perfect time for pandas.
Have a great night!!
