Fabulous Friday!!!

We began the day with our Open-Minded winners!! Khaliya was awarded the Open-Minded certificate from our class!

Next we wrote our spelling test.

Then we had French and then Gym.

After first recess and lunch we had Music.

When we returned, we reviewed our understanding of turns and slides. Then we learned about reflections:

We also learned how to use a Mira to understand that a reflection creates an image of a figure on the other side of a reflection or mirror line.

Next we worked in partners to create reflections. We used pattern blocks and put them on side of the reflection. We then tried to figure out where the exact shape would go on the other side of the reflection line; we used the Mira to ensure we were correct.

Then we worked on some questions related to reflections.

After second recess and lunch we worked on our summative project.

At the end of the day, Raiyan shared his empathy entry about his mom!!

Tremendous Thursday!!!

We began the day working on our summative projects.

Next we had French and then Gym.

After first recess and lunch we reviewed what we learned yesterday about slides. When learning about motion geometry it is important to understand how a figure has moved (slide, turn, rotation). Today our focus was on how a figure has turned. We learned that when an object turns, it can turn a quarter, half way, make a three quarter turn and/or make a full turn. We also learned that a turn is a rotation that moves a figure around a turn centre. After 1 full turn, a figure is back to where it started. A turn can be described in terms of the fraction of a turn that the figure moves (for example, quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn). A turn can be described by the direction in which the figure moves (clockwise or counter clockwise).

As a class we worked on some questions together and then played a game using our bodies to better understand turns. Ms. Jaskolka called out quarter turn, half turn, or three quarter turn and we tried our best to turn our bodies the correct way.

Check out our game!!!!
