We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

After we wrote our 3-D Geometry Test.

Next we were off to physical education.

When students returned, we did some organizing within our binders.

Following first recess and lunch, students began practicing for their summative project. Students were asked to imagine that one of their friends has experienced an earthquake and lost everything. Students worked together to decide what their role would be in this kind of a situation as a good citizen. We decided that all of us would want to help our friend so we brainstormed how we could go about getting the items our friend and their family would need. We decided that the immediate needs would be: food, clothing, shelter, toiletries, and money. Some fundraising ideas that we came up with to help our friend are: a bake sale, food drive, clothing drive, and putting together a marathon run. Next students worked in groups to pick one of the needs and came up with a campaign to fundraise for these items.

After second recess and lunch, we finished working on our posters and then presented them to the class. We worked together to discuss what each group did well and some areas of improvement on their poster; for each poster we were looking for important information (who, what, where, when, why and how) so we knew the purpose of each campaign and what they were about. We also thought about making our posters colourful and eye catching, as well as, including pictures in order to grab peoples attention.

Tremendous Tuesday!

We began the day sharing our amazing long weekends!

We then had physical education.

When we returned, we marked our math reviews together.

Following first recess and lunch, we had music with Mr. Oliver.

When returned, we worked on our spelling words for the week.

After second recess and lunch, we talked about natural disasters that could happen that would cause us to leave our home. We talked about the fire in Fort McMurray and how the people who lived there had to pack the things they need quickly. We imagined that there was a flood and we were only given ten minutes to pack what we NEED. Here is what we came up with:

We were then told that we were given five extra minutes to pack only five things that we WANT. Here is what we came up with:

This activity really helped us understand that needs are items that we would need immediately and to survive and wants are items that we could live without.
