Tremendous Tuesday!
We began the day having French with
Mlle. Jessica.
We then moved into math. We counted
by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s using a hundred’s chart. We reviewed the patterns that we
notice. For example, when counting by tens, we can just move down one number on
the hundred’s chart. When we start at 0 and count by 2’s the pattern is: 2, 4,
6, 8, 0 that always remains no matter how high up we count. When we start at 0
and count by 5’s the pattern is: 5 and 0 repeat. We then looked for patterns on
a chart that went from 101-200. We used this chart to make our own patterns. We
then showed our understanding in our Math Makes Sense books.
Next, we had physical education
with Mr. H.
After, we continued working on our
Math.
Following first recess and lunch,
we explored healthy and non-healthy foods. We were given a challenge to sort
various foods and decided if they are healthy or not healthy.
We then started a conversation
about what it means to be a good friend and how we feel when someone hurts our
feelings. We did an activity to better understand how someone feels when they
are not treated nicely by others. Each student was given a piece of paper and
they were asked to crumple it. Next, students were asked to unfold the paper
and to fix all the creases and folds. After, students were asked to apologize
to the paper for crumpling it up. Students made various comments about how
impossible it was to return the paper to its original state. Now even though
they said sorry and tried to fix the paper, it was pointed out that all the
scars they left behind. These scars will never go away no matter how hard they
tried to fix it. That is what happens when we continue to hurt someone’s
feelings. We may say sorry but the scars are there forever. Students then shared
their own experiences when they have been hurt by others reinforcing the point
that when we get hurt by others, we do not forget. We came to the conclusion
that instead of saying sorry when we do something wrong or say something
hurtful, we should just not say or do whatever it is that will hurt another
person.
We then linked this activity to
Language today. We brainstormed what it means to be a good friend. Students
then made their own brainstorm about the healthy foods they know.
After second recess and lunch, we
read chapter 10 and 11 of Charlotte’s Web.
After, we wrote a journal entry
about the ways that we stay healthy; we are focusing on using proper writing
conventions in our journals.
