Fabulous Friday!
We began the day with our spelling test.
Next we had French and then Gym.
After first recess and lunch we wrote our
pre-assessment for our upcoming unit in Math: Sorting and Data Management.
We then caught up on unfinished work.
When we were finished, we looked at our
push and pull factors that we came up with and worked as a group to sort them
under the four factors that influence migration: economic, political, environmental,
and social.
Next we began our Novel Study related to
our current unit of Inquiry: Song Lee in Room 2B. Before we began reading this
story, we looked at the cover and title of the book and came up with some
predictions about what we thought the story would be about.
After second recess and lunch, we read
chapter one of our Novel Study. We were introduced to the characters in Room
2B. We realized that this story is written in first person and that Doug, one
of the students in the class, is narrating the story. One of the main characters
we found out is Song Lee, who we quickly learned is new to the country and does
not speak English very well. Song Lee is asked to do a presentation in front of
the class about her favourite vacation spot and she almost cries; we were able
to infer that this is because she is shy and embarrassed that she does not
speak English very well and therefore does not want to speak in front of the
class. The next day Song Lee had a creative idea and performed her presentation
as a cherry blossom tree from Korea; she was able to hide behind the tree and
speak all about Korea, where she is from. The class was so happy and cheered
for her!!
At the end of the day we played outside.
Have a wonderful weekend!
