Tremendous Thursday!
Tomorrow
students will be in grade 3!! Please drop off all their belongings with Ms.
Soroka in M5 as they will be spending the day in her room.
We had a very busy
and exciting day!
We began the day
reading Oil Spill by Mervin Berger again so we could better understand how oil
spills occur and how to prevent them. We also read Water Hole by Graeme Base.
Reading this book we learned about how important it is for us to protect the
water because all living things need it to survive. We then finished working on
our Science board for the Science Fair. Students did a fantastic job!
Afterwards, we
continued learning about coins in math. We discussed the loonie and toonie.
Students then worked on their coin package where they demonstrated their understanding
of each coin.
Then it was time
to present our Science Experiment to the judges!! Students showed how much they
have learned about pollution, oil spills, and the importance of protecting our planet!
When we were
finished, we had first recess and lunch.
Afterwards we had
French.
When we returned,
students had their unit 11 spelling test. Then we watched a Bill Nye the
Science Guy video about Architecture. Afterwards, we discussed the important
points from the video. We talked about the different materials that buildings
can be made of and how structures need a strong base they will not fall down.
We also discussed how architects ask many questions when the begin planning
such as: what will the structure be used for? Will it be a home? Office
building?
After second
recess and lunch, it was time to show our parents and the rest of the school
our Science fair experiment. We also got a change to look at the other science
fair experiments, which were educational as well as fun!
