Terrific
Thursday!!
We began the day
learning more about explanations and how to write one. We reviewed what an
explanation is: write, in order, how and why something works or occurs. We also
discussed the important questions we need to answer when writing an explanation:
who, what, where, when, why, and how. Students then created a new critter and
wrote a descriptive explanatory text to explain it to someone who has not seen
a picture of it. Students combined different animals together to create their
critter. Here are some questions that the students answered:
o
How
did you find it? Where does it live? What does it look like? What does it do?
What is it’s name?
Wahkeen worked on Adjectives. He reread The Mitten and chose his favourite animal.
He explained why it was his favourite animal and then used adjectives to
describe it. He then finished the following sentences:
-My
animal feels…
-My
animal looks…
-My
animal sounds…
We then had
physical education with Ms. Lovan.
When students
returned we brainstormed various symbols of Canada and then watched two videos
to help us learn more.
-beaver
-moose
-maple leaf
-flag
-canoe
-Royal Canadian
Mountie Police – symbol Canadian law and order
-Loon – loonie
