Marvelous Monday!!
Family Tree Presentation:
Students are to
complete the two sheets going home today for Friday. Students are to fill out
the family tree sheet and be prepared to present it to the class on Friday.
Students are also asked to come up with another symbol to represent their
family tree. They are to draw this symbol on the blank sheet going home and fit
all their family members on it (only immediate family: brother, sister, mother,
father); students will explain why they chose their symbol to the class during
their short presentation. An example: My family likes to go camping a lot and
we use the canoe to go fishing so I decided to use a canoe as a symbol for my
family and put all my family members on each paddle.
Country Celebration Presentation:
Students will
choose a country (this can be from their own culture) and research a
celebration within this country. They are to include:
1. The dates of
the celebration
2. Important
people who are responsible for the celebration/important people that are a part
of this celebration
3. A symbol
associated with this celebration (Ex: Christmas – a Christmas tree)
4. 2 facts about
this celebration
5. A gift giving
tradition within this country
6. 2-3 other
traditions in this country
Students are to do
the research at home and they will do the writing portion at school Monday,
March 2, 2015. They will present on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.
We have a new
student in our class!!! Her name is Seohyeon. She comes to us all the way from
Korea!!! We are so excited to have her join our class!!
We began the day
completing our spelling work for unit 20.
We then had physical
education with Ms. Lovan.
For Math, students
were each given 3-D shape cut-outs and solids in order to determine how many vertices,
faces, and edges each one has. After, students cut out their nets from Thursday
(for a cone, cube, cylinder, square pyramid, triangular prism, triangular based
pyramid).
Wahkeen reviewed
how to count quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. He then moved on to counting
quarters (1= 25 cents, 2= 50 cents, 3 = 75 cents, and 4= 100 cents).
During UOI, we
learned about family tress. First Ms. Jaskolka showed us her family tree. We
then discussed what a family tree is and what it’s purpose is:
a drawing or chart that shows how the
different members of a family are related to each other. Who goes on it? Some family trees just
extend to your family and grandparents, others go further into the family
(cousins, aunts etc.) We then we watched a short video that
explained more about what a family tree is:
After first recess
and lunch we had French. After we wrote our homework in our agenda’s and kept
working on our nets from this morning.
After second
recess and lunch, we continued writing about our critters from last week. We
need to write an explanation about our critter and during art we continued
drawing out and colouring our critter.

2. Family Tree presentation Friday
February 27, 2015
3. Finish making 3-D shapes
4. Being in information about
country celebration for Monday, March 2, 2015
