Ms. Jaskolka has a message for her class: She appreciates how each student comes to class prepared and ready to
learn. They have been very responsible and have taken ownership over their own
actions and work. The students have been working very hard and Ms. Jaskolka is
so proud of each one of you. The students in her class have been taking initiative
(who remembers what this means?) and are always so helpful! Thank you so much
to all my wonderful students! J
Macbeth Tickets were handed out
today. If you would like to watch the play, please return the tickets with $30
for each one. If you are not able to come to the play, kindly return the
tickets. We will watch your children for $5 and play some fun games with them.
The Summative project is due on
Thursday. Students are to create a mechanism using one simple machine. This mechanism
needs to be useful to humans. Students also have a package that went home where
they are to discuss the mechanism that they created. Students will be
presenting their mechanism on Thursday.
Fantastic Friday!
We began the day with the presentation of the Risk Taker
awards and an exciting soccer house game.
After we had physical education with Ms. Lovan.
When students returned they wrote their spelling test.
After they continued writing about what would happen if all
the machines ran away.
During Math, Ms. Jaskolka grouped 3-D shapes together and we
needed to figure out the sorting rule focusing on an attribute (faces, can
stack, rolled, curved surface, vertices). Students then worked in their Math
Makes Sense books. They looked at a picture with 3-D shaped objects; students
came up with their own sorting rules for the 3-D objects.
After first recess and lunch we had French.
After French we wrote our homework in our agendas and then
moved onto our novel study. We summarized the first chapter together. After, we
thought about a time that we were jealous just like Andrew in Freckle Juice. We
then read chapter 2 of the book and found out that Andrew gave Sharon 50 cents
for the recipe of Freckle Juice. We are excited to find out if the recipe
works!!
After second recess and lunch, we finished reading chapter 2
and then we practiced Read to Someone. We
first went over the I-chart and then how we read the same book with a partner.
One partner reads one page and then checks for understanding by asking their
partner what is happening on the page and who it is about. We also learned
about coaching. When our partner has trouble reading a word, we wait and then
we ask if they need coaching. Some tips: looking at the picture for clues,
chunking the word (ice – cream), sounding out each letter.
At the end of the day we had some free time. We were singing some songs from Frozen. What a great day!
