Wonderful Wednesday!

Re-Registration is due February 20.

Culture assignment

1.   Students are to bring in a picture of an important holiday, tradition, or celebration part of their culture.
2.     They are to explain the holiday, tradition, or celebration
3.     They will also describe how they celebrate the holiday, tradition, or celebration at home.

Students will present on Friday, February 20, 2015

We began the day having art with Mr. Monaghan and physical education with Ms. DaCosta.

For UOI, we joined Ms. DaCosta’s class and discussed what we already know about culture. We then conducted a survey about the different cultures we have in Grade 2 and made a bar graph to show our results.

We then main a brainstorm about the various cultural celebrations/traditions that we know.

During Math, we reviewed what we already know about 3-D shapes (faces, vertices, edges). We then looked at a picture in the big math book of students making skeletons of a prism and pyramid. We then made a skeleton of a 3-D shape using play dough and straws.

Wahkeen counted quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies.

After first recess and lunch students had French. When students returned they wrote their homework in our agendas and completed any unfinished work.

After second recess and lunch we discussed what it means to be open minded. We then wrote about what an open minded learner looks like, feels like, and sounds like.

During Daily 5 we learned about Work on Writing. We discussed how we can get past a blank sheet and come up with a writing topic. First we noticed the ideas in our head and then did a think-about: Once you have an idea, you think about it, and that becomes what you write about. The last pages of our notebook are where we will be keeping our ideas of what to write about. At the top of the page we wrote “What to Write About. ” We then wrote about the ideas in our head. We will continue thinking about the different ideas in our head and jotting down notes about our thoughts; this way if we are ever facing a blank page during Work on Writing during Daily 5 and aren’t sure what to write about, we can turn to those pages and see all the ideas written down and we will always have something to write about.
