Fantastic Friday!
International day is on January 22:
As part of being an IB school we encourage students to
demonstrate ‘International Mindedness’. At St. Jude’s Academy, we value the
diversity of cultures and perspectives that exist in our local, national and
global communities to enhance student learning.
This year, St. Jude’s Academy will be having our third
annual International Mindedness Day on Friday, January 22, 2016. This activity
will involve JK – Gr. 6 classes and each class will be learning about one
country. Students and teachers will inquire into the life and culture of
citizens from that country.
Our class is learning about Trinidad!
Students will be researching many aspects of their
country including:
Traditional music
Traditional dress
Artwork
Dance
Foods
Cultural toys
Games
Sports
Students are to research about
their specific topic (written in their agenda) and bring in their information
on Tuesday. Please include 2-3 pictures about the topic researched.
We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.
After, we began working on our summative project. Students
wrote about what they have learned and how structures are made stable and
strong. Furthermore, students brainstormed the materials they will use to make their
bridge and any shapes that will help them build a strong and stable bridge.
UOI Project:
Students will be building their own bridge using materials of their choice. Students will be building their bridge at school. Before building, students will be planning/brainstorming all of their ideas. We will begin this process on Friday. Students will then take home these packages and have them completed for Wednesday. Students are also required to bring in their materials by Wednesday. Materials are to be brought in a bag labeled with the student’s name.
When students were finished, they continued practicing writing
detailed sentences about a specific topic. Students were given a topic to write
about, and they wrote three detailed sentences to create the body of their
paragraph.
After first recess and lunch, students continued working on
their detailed sentences.
When they were finished, they worked on addition and
subtraction word problems.
After second recess and lunch, students wrote their homework
in their agendas, completed any unfinished work, and then worked on a fun
addition and subtraction activity. This activity will help students practice
for the test on Wednesday.
