Marvelous Monday!
We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.
International day is on January 22:
As part of being an IB school we encourage students to demonstrate ‘International Mindedness’. At St. Jude’s Academy, we value the diversity of cultures and perspectives that exist in our local, national and global communities to enhance student learning.
This year, St. Jude’s Academy will be having our third annual International Mindedness Day on Friday, January 22, 2016. This activity will involve JK – Gr. 6 classes and each class will be learning about one country. Students and teachers will inquire into the life and culture of citizens from that country.
Our class is learning about Trinidad!
Students will be researching many aspects of their country including:
Traditional music
Traditional dress
Artwork
Dance
Foods
Cultural toys
Games
Sports
Students are to research about their specific topic (written in their agenda) and bring in their information tomorrow. Please include 2-3 pictures about the topic researched.
UOI Project:
Students will be building their own bridge using materials of their choice. Students will be building their bridge at school. Before building, students will be planning/brainstorming all of their ideas. We will begin this process on Friday. Students will then take home these packages and have them completed for Wednesday. Students are also required to bring in their materials by Wednesday. Materials are to be brought in a bag labeled with the student’s name.
We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.
When we returned, Ms. Jaskolka put us in groups and gave us
a building challenge: to build a structure as tall as we can and to ensure that
it is also stable. When we were finished, Ms. Jaskolka put a book on our
structure, so we needed to ensure that it could also support weight. We all
passed this challenge!!
In our groups we used play dough as the fastener and either
toothpicks, straws, or stir sticks:
After first recess and lunch, we had physical education.
During math, students needed to write and figure out two
addition and subtraction word problems. Then, students reflected upon addition
and subtraction strategies that they have learned during this unit and wrote
them in their math books.
After second recess and lunch, students wrote their homework
in their agendas and then working on their unit 14 spelling words.
