Tremendous Tuesday!!

We began the day working on our lesson 5 spelling words. Before French, we completed our mad minutes activity building on our mental math addition and subtraction. 

Next we had French and then gym.

After first recess and lunch we learned about different ways that we can add one digit numbers. We looked at the addition chart as a class and looked for patterns. We also learned how to use doubles to figure out near doubles problems:

2+3=

2+2=4 +1 = 5

3+3=6-1= 5

We also learned a ‘make ten’ strategy. For example:

9+4

We can do 9+1=10 and then add on 3 to get our answer. When we use the make ten strategy it is much easier to add on from ten.

Using near doubles and the make ten strategy will help build on our mental math abilities.

We then worked in partners on activity using near doubles and the make ten strategy.

After second recess and lunch we began working on our summative project. We are going to make so many people so happy with our kind acts!!!
