Tremendous Thursday!

We began the day with our Anti-Bullying assembly. We first closed our eyes and were asked questions that related to bullying and we raised our hand if the statement related to us. We then opened our eyes to see many students have experienced bullying/unkind acts. We then watched a powerful video about what do to when you are being bullied; walk away and tell a trusted adult. Then we designed shirts to encourage kindness and to stop bullying.

Then we moved onto math. We. Began our first unit on percents. Today we focused on ‘skills you need’ before beginning our unit that were learned last year.

Learning Goal: to write a fraction as a decimal and represent percents on a hundred chart

We looked through examples that illustrated how to convert from a fraction to a decimal when the numerator is not 10 or 100.

We learned that instead of using a calculator when we cannot write an equivalent fraction with denominator, we can use long division.

Students are told not to use a calculator to get their answers but they can use a calculator to check their answer.

Example:

Success Criteria:
I can:
-convert a fraction to a decimal
-write a fraction as a decimal
-represent percents on a hundred chart

Then we worked on the good copy of our brochure.

Next we had French.

After first recess and lunch we continued working on the good copy of our brochure focusing on the PEPS for the developing country that we chose. Tomorrow we will be having our ambassador’s tea party where each ambassador will share the PEPS of their country to the other ambassador’s at our ‘Ambassador’s Tea Party.’

Next we went to check out the Grade 10 Personal Projects. The process for the Grade 10 Personal project is very similar to the process that we will be going through for Exhibition so we were able to inquire and ask questions about the topic chosen for each project.

After second recess and lunch we had physical education with Mr. Orr.

Homework:

1.    Read Daily
2.    Finish Brochure
3.    Math text book page 290-291 (Most finished in class)
4.    Math sheet

5.    Ambassador’s tea party tomorrow: dress professionally and bring in treats if possible
