Marvelous Monday!
We began the day having art with Mr. Monaghan and physical
education with Ms. Lovan.
We then joined Ms. DaCosta’s class and did an experiment
together to learn more about capacity. We predicted how many scoops it would
take to fill a water jug; we used a scoop that was 1/3 of a cup. When Ms.
Jaskolka was about half way, we had the opportunity to change our prediction. Some
students noticed that we could double the amount of scoops to know how many
scoops it would take to fill the rest of the jug, since we were already half
way. We then used a scoop that was ½ of a cup and we made our predictions. We
knew that because this scoop was bigger, it would take fewer scoops to fill the
jug. Next, we had a travel mug, a mug, and a jar. We decided which one we
thought had the biggest and smallest capacity. We then counted how many scoops
it took to fill each one and we ordered them from least to greatest.
During UOI, we learned about persuasive writing.
We used the OREO method to write a letter to a friend,
persuading them to conserve water and why.
We
first did an example together about why it is important to recycle aluminum foil.
Opinion: Everyone should recycle aluminum
foil.
Reason: We want out children to
live on a planet that is clean and healthy so they can live long and happy
lives.
Examples:
1.
First, it takes thousands of years to decompose.
2.
Second, when it is made in a factory, the air
becomes polluted and cows lose their teeth from eating the grass affected by
the chemicals.
3.
Finally, It can be reused and recycled many
times so why make more?
Opinion: In
conclusion, we should recycle aluminum foil so our plant and future generations
are healthy!
After first recess and lunch we had French. When students
returned we wrote our homework in our agendas and then completed any unfinished
work.
After second recess and lunch, we completed our work for
Lesson 31 in our spelling books.
At the end of the day we did Work on Writing.
Homework:
1.
Read for 20 minutes
2.
Summative project due May 28
3.
Ice cream forms due May 21
