Terrific Tuesday!!
We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.
We then wrote our homework in our agenda.
This month, the learner profile is knowledgeable and the
attitude is independence. We began working on an activity that showed how we can be knowledgeable and independent.
Then we had art with Ms. Kerr.
During recess, students were very fascinated by Joshua’s
telescope!
After first recess and lunch, we had physical education with
Ms. Lovan.
When we returned, we began our new unit of inquiry: How we express ourselves- Read all about
it. We will be learning about different forms of media and how we can be
media literate. We first brainstormed all the different kinds of media that we
know in groups.
After, we watched a video that explained more about what
media is.
Here is our brainstorm as a class:
We then talked about media literacy and what it means to be
media literate:
o
Being
able to read, view and interpret different types of media.
What is the purpose of media:
o
To inform, entertain, or persuade the reader about a
topic
What do writers do to influence us? What techniques do
they use?
o
Sounds – sound effects, jingles, dialogue
o
Movement – actions, actors
o
Graphics – images and pictures
Colour – bright or dull
These topics are our focus for our new unit of inquiry and
we will be looking at various forms of media and learning how to interrupt them
and find the messages within each one.
For math, we needed to figure out various patterns on a
hundred’s chart.
After second recess and lunch, we had novel study. We
continued working on our book covers showing ourselves
having a fever from our favourite food just like Henry from Chocolate Fever. When we were finished, we wrote a
summary for our book but we made sure not to give away the ending.
