Marvelous Monday!
We began the day
having French with Mlle. Jessica.
We then moved onto
math. We will be having our test next Monday on two-digit addition and
subtraction using a place value mat so we worked in partners to practice for
our test. Working in partners, we took
turns creating addition and subtraction problems and solving the problems our
partners made for us using manipulative (tens and one) and white boards. After we created an addition or subtraction
word problem with our partner and then we picked one to solve as a class.
We then had
physical education.
When we returned,
we continued working with our partners solving word problems using a place
value mat.
Following first recess
and lunch we joined the other Grade 2 class to understand why people move from one country to another and how
they feel. Children first
watched a video about push and pull factors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nai-Rjg7QF4. As a year group we discussed and created a classroom chart about
the reasons people may leave their country and come to Canada. We then watched
a video about a 7-year-old girl from Syria, Malak, who needed to leave her
country to live a safer life. We then had our own GUEST SPEAKER – Ms. Baimas!
She spoke to the class about moving to Canada and the decisions faced with
moving. She also spoke about how she felt when faced with such a big decision.
After second recess and lunch we wrote
out our review words and working in our spelling books.
We then began reading chapter 3 of The
Borrowers. Students made a very important connection today!!!! We discussed how
our novel study relates to our current unit of inquiry. The borrowers we have
decided are little people and they are moving from house to house because they
are continuously faced with dangers; these dangers we determined are push
factors. So we concluded that the borrowers are migrating from country to
country to find a safe home. Grade job Grade 2’s!!!!!
