Terrific Thursday!
Ornaments for our tradition tree
are due tomorrow
Art Reach is tomorrow
If possible, bring in costumes
for our holiday concert tomorrow. For the Christmas concert,
students are able to come up with their own villain costumes or come dressed in
jeans and a red or green shirt. Students without a costume will be given a big
E to tape on their shirt to represent evil.
We began the day
completing our journal entries from last week. We wrote about three things that
we are excited to do over the holidays making sure that we added detail. For
those students that finished early, they worked on making winter compound
words: snowflake, snowman, fireplace, etc.
After, we had
physical education with Ms. Lovan.
During our unit of
inquiry, we completed an experiment to determine whether or not the height of a
structure affects its stability. We first made predictions and after our
experiment we wrote conclusions and determined if our conclusions were correct.
During math we
practiced “find ten” and “near doubles”
strategies to help us count three 1 digit numbers.
Find ten example:
7+3+8
7+3 = 10
10 + 8 = 18
7+4+9
-1
7+3 =10
10+9=19+1=20
When we use the
find ten strategy, the first two numbers we use need to reach 10. We use this
strategy because it is easier to add on from 10.
Near doubles:
5+6+4
-1
5+5=10
10+4=14
8+7+5
+1
8+8=16
16+5=21-1=20
We use this strategy
to help us count faster.
After first recess
and lunch we had French.
Afterwards, we
kept working on “find ten” and “near doubles” strategies when adding.
We then wrote our
homework in our agendas and then had an early dismissal because of the snow.
Have a safe night!
