Wonderful Wednesday!

We began the day with our new Math unit: Exploring Addition and Subtraction.
We looked at a picture of some people at a fair and decided what kinds of number stories we could make. Ms. Jaskolka also put some examples on the board and we came up with addition and subtraction stories and sentences.
One example: Ms. Jaskolka drew some cars going left and some cars going right on the board.
Addition story: There are four cars going left on the road. Four cars are going right on the road. There are ten cars in total.
Addition sentence: 4+6=10 or 6+4=10
When we are making addition sentences it does not matter the order of the two numbers.
Subtraction story: There are ten cars on the road. Six cars are going right onto the highway. Four cars went left.
Subtraction sentence: 10-6=4
When making a subtraction sentence, we know that we need to make sure to put the total number of objects/items first.

We then had physical education with Ms. Loven.

After, we practiced for the Christmas concert with Ms. DaCosta’s class.

When we were finished, we wrote addition and subtraction sentences for picture stories in our Math Makes Sense books.

Afterwards, we continued learning about man made and natural made objects/items.
o   Natural made: Items that would still exist if people didn’t exist
o   Man made: things that would not exist if humans never did

We cut out items/objects and put them on a chart separating man made and natural made.

After first recess and lunch we had French. After French we wrote how to make a snowman using first, next, then, and last (we were practicing the recount form). After, we used the steps in our recount to make a snowman.

After second recess and lunch we continued working on our poster from yesterday making sure to include: the topic, date, location, address, contact, phone number, prices. When we were finished, we listened to some Christmas music while we finished our snowmen. Now if anyone wants to know how to build a snowman, we have step to step directions!

Homework:
- Read for 20 minutes
- Return last page of report card with parent comments
- Lunch forms due Dec 12
- Practise Christmas concert script

-Ornament for our “Tradition Tree”
