Tremendous Tuesday!

Bake Sale Tomorrow

Christmas concert tomorrow in the evening

We began the day practicing two-digit addition. We were given word problems to solve where we needed to add two digits numbers as well as provide a written explanation for our answer. An example: there are 28 people on the Ferris wheel. 45 more are waiting in line. How many people are at the ride together? We also were given addition sentences where we needed to figure out which one’s equal 73. We also needed to explain how some were easier to figure out then others:
32+41=73 – this is easy to figure out because all we do is add 2+1=3 and 4+3 =7
28+45=73 – this is harder because we need to write out the addition problem and carry the 1 from 8+5 (in the ones column); with this question we have more steps to do and it is harder to figure out this question in our head.

We then preformed for the Christmas concert. We did a great job!!!

Afterwards, we caught up on any finished work, wrote our homework in our agenda and completed a Christmas spelling package.

After first lunch, we built various structures using play dough and toothpicks, stir sticks, or straws. We learned that it is important to have the materials close together when they are weak or small because they cannot hold a heavy load. We also learned how important it is to have a strong foundation.

After second recess and lunch, we continued finishing up any unfinished work and working on our Christmas package. We wrote Christmas words in cursive, figured out how many syllables they have and put the words in alphabetical order. We also made beautiful Christmas ornaments!! We were given heart shaped bulbs and we put sparkly paint in them and swirled the paint around. They turned out great! Students will be able to take these home tomorrow J
