Tremendous Thursday!!
Tomorrow is International Day. Students are to come
dressed in their uniforms but can change into green and/or white clothing
before 2:30. Parents are welcome to come from 2:30 – 3:30 and learn about the
various countries we have been researching and inquiring about at St. Jude’s.
Hope to see you all there!
Today we were together with Ms. DaCosta’s class because she is sick.
In the morning, we continued working on our letters to
students in Hong Kong.
After we had physical education.
When students returned we watched a video about screws and
wedges.
Video about screws and wedges
We then did a fun experiment with Ms. Jaskolka to see how screws work. We used a screw top bottle and a snap on bottle. We were asked what would happen to each bottle if they were dropped from a high distance. We then did this experiment as a class. We did the experiment three times. All three times, the top on the screw bottle did not come off. When we did the experiment the first time, the snap top came off. The next two times, the top did not come off but the water started leaking from it. We came to the conclusion that the screw top bottle worked better because of the grooves. Screws also have these grooves and that is why they are able to hold materials together even though they can be small.

During math we played another exciting game with spinners!
We chose a spinner and then used it to race a tortoise and a hare. We spun the
spinner ten times. We know that the paper clip will most likely land on the
area that takes up the most amount of space on the spinner. We also know that
when the spinner is split in half, it is likely that the paperclip will land on
either side.
After first recess and lunch we had French.
We then wrote our homework and then continued any unfinished
work. We also practiced our poems.
After second recess and lunch we continued working on our
letters.
At the end of the day we had art. We continued working on
making our stick figures and using crayons to create a tie-dye and bright affect
around us.
We will finish them next week.
