Terrific Thursday!!
Macbeth tickets are on sale! All the
money collected will go to our SJA Science program!
Scientist in the School tomorrow!
Students, what kind of action have you been doing through
out the unit?
We began the day with Math. We looked at a graph in the Big
Math Book and discussed what kind of information it is showing us: the number
of nickels each person has. We spoke about what we can tell from this graph:
Who has the most/least nickels; how many nickels one person has than the
others. Students inquired about the different ways we could show the same
information: tally chart, bar graph. We reviwed the important parts of a graph:
title, labels, and numbers on one side. Students then completed two pages in
their Math Makes Sense where they interpreted a bar graph and tally chart.
After students had physical education with Ms. Lovan.
We then went to Ms. Dacosta’s class and continued our
friction and inclined plane experiment from yesterday. We did an experiment to see how different
surfaces affect how far a toy car would be able to travel. We used sandpaper,
wax paper, white paper, and aluminum foil. We also wrote our conclusion today,
discussing which surfaces the car travelled the farthest (white/copy paper) and
shortest (sand paper and aluminum foil) and why (because of the amounts of
frictions the various surfaces have).
We then completed our stick figures and letters to Hong
Kong.
After first recess and lunch we had French.
When students returned, they wrote their homework in their
agendas and then did some silent reading.
After second recess and lunch students began learning how to
write an explanation. We discussed what
we should have before writing an explanation: detailed sentences. To help us
add detail we can ask: Who? What? Where? When? Why? And How? Students then
worked in their Ontario Writing books, describing pictures with 1 detailed
sentence.
At the end of the day we build stamina for Read to Self making sure we are reading
“just right” books.
Homework:
1.
Read for 20 minutes
2.
Math Test Wednesday
3.
Spelling test tomorrow
