Casual Day is on Thursday.
Macbeth tickets are on sale! All the money collected will go to our SJA Science program!
We began the day having art with Mr. Monaghan. We discussed what kinds of instruments we would like to learn and why. We also played a game making sound effects.
During UOI we did a fun experiment that helped us learn the
important job that a fulcrum has on a lever. The fulcrum is what allows the
lever to move and do it’s job. We used a cube, triangular prism, and a sphere
to see which shape fulcrum could hold a load. We first made our predictions and
then performed our experiment. We noticed that the sphere could not even hold
the ruler so it could not hold a load. The cube was able to hold a load but it
made everything level. The triangular prism worked like a sea saw and was able
to hold a load.
During math we inquired into conducting surveys. We first
discussed what the main parts are of a bar graph are (title, labels, numbers).
We then talked about the steps that we would take when conducting a survey:
1.
Choose a question
2.
Decide how to collect your data
3.
Ask each person your question
4.
Tally the results
5.
Make a bar graph
Then we use the bar graph to explain what kind of information it is giving us.
Then we use the bar graph to explain what kind of information it is giving us.
Each student then came up with their own question and went
to survey students in other classrooms making sure to tally their results. They
made a bar graph (including all the important parts: title, numbers, and
labels) and answered questions about their tally and bar graph.
After first recess and lunch students had French. After, we
took our SJA panoramic photo.
When students returned, they wrote their homework in their
agendas and then practiced their poems with a partner. They also explained
their poems to their partners and any unknown words.
After second recess and lunch, students continued writing
their letter to Hong Kong.
At the end of the day, we practiced Read to Self. We made sure that we were quiet, we stayed in one
spot, and that we read each “just right” book three different ways (read the
pictures, read the story, and retell the story). Students were able to read for
10 minutes with few interruptions. We will keep practicing so that we are able
to read for a whole 10 minutes without any interruptions. Great job!!
