Wonderful Wednesday!
Today we were together with Ms. DaCosta’s class because she
is sick.
We began the day doing Math. We discussed what it means when
someone says it will probably rain. This does not mean that it will never rain
or that it will always rain but that it will likely rain. We looked at a
spinner that Ms. Jaskolka put on the board. 1/8 of the spinner was labeled long
sleeve shirts and 7/8 of the spinner was labeled short sleeves. We were asked,
if we spun the spinner 10 times would long sleeves or short sleeves win? We
came to the conclusion that short sleeves would win because it takes up more
space on the spinner. We then got the chance to play our own game using
spinners. We used spinners to build a picture of a snowperson. One snowperson was
labeled A and the other was labeled B; on our spinner we chose which part would
be A and B. We then used the spinner to see which snowperson would be the
tallest.
Wahkeen practiced counting small amounts of coins.
During UOI, we reviewed what a simple machine is (simple
machines make work easier for us) and went over the 6 simple machines (pulley,
lever, wedge, wheel and axle, inclined plane, and screw. We then discussed
force (push or pull on an object) and energy (the ability to do work). We then began
making a Simple Machines Flip Flap Book. We defined what a simple machines is,
wrote out the 6 simple machines, and then defined force and energy in our flip
flap book.
After first recess and lunch we had French. After we
practiced our poems in partners.
Mr. Monaghan then came and we had Art.
After second recess and lunch, we began writing our letters
to students in Hong Kong using our Flat Stanley adventures over the holiday. We
first discussed the important parts we need to include in a letter and then began
our rough copies.
