We began the day discussing what we think Freckle Juice will
be about. We then designed a cover for Freckle Juice, keeping in mind our
predictions.
After, we had physical education with Ms. Lovan.
During UOI, we watched Bill Nye Simple Machines. We learned
more about what simple machines are: they make work easier. We also were given
examples of all six simple machines (lever, screw, wheel, inclined plane,
pulley, and wedge).

In Math, we began our new unit: Data Management and
Probability. In this unit students will play games where they predict whether
an event will happen. We looked at the Big Math Book and recited a chant that
explains a game called “Race to Ten.” After discussing the rules we played this
game as a class. We used 10 blue cubes and 5 red cubes. Students were each
given the opportunity to pick out a cube from the bag. We first made
predictions about which colour would win and we were right! The colour blue won
because there were more blue than red cubes in the bag. We then played this
game again on our own and filled out “Race to Ten” questions.
Wahkeen counted dimes, nickels and pennies.
After first recess and lunch, we had French.
When students returned they wrote their homework in their
agendas. We then continued reading more about Nigeria with Ms. Jaskolka. We
learned about the education in Nigeria and read about Ania’s (a girl from
Nigeria) typical day and compared it to our own.
After second recess and lunch we completed an assessment
about writing an explanation to help Ms. Jaskolka know how to help the students
write a proper explanation.
Wahkeen did some work with adjectives.
Afterwards we had art. We drew ourselves as stick figures
and then started to use crayons to create a tie-dye affect around us.
