Fantastic Friday!!
We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.
After we had our spelling test and then wrote our homework
in our agendas.
When students were finished, we continued presenting our
commercials:
After first recess and lunch, we had physical education with
Ms. Lovan.
When students returned, we dedicated a whole hour to Math so
that we can understand and become better at counting money. We are getting so
much better!!
We first discussed how many cents are in each coin (penny,
nickel, dime, quarter, loonie, and toonie). We then discussed how we could use
various coins to make a loonie and toonie (ex: we can use four quarters to make
a loonie). Afterwards, we practiced counting money; we discussed that the
easiest way to count coins is to start with the largest amount first. For
example, if we have 2 nickels, a dime, and a quarter we would:
Start with the quarter first biggest it is worth the most:
25
Then we would add on a dime (so we would add 10 cents)
Then we could add 5 (nickel) and 5 (nickel)
or some students
added the 5 and 5 together and then added on 10.
We then figured out the coins that we would need to buy
various objects.
After we practiced our addition skills: we were given four
objects and we needed to figure out which three we could buy with 95 cents.
After second recess and lunch, we wrote our last page of our
report card. This is what we wrote about:
This term I learned about….
This term I improved on …..
I had the most fun when we ……
