Terrific Tuesday!
**Please bring in empty cereal
boxes for the students to use in art
We began the day having French with Mdm. Stella.
After, we continued writing the commercial about the product
that we have created for our summative project.
We then had Art with Ms. Kerr.
After first recess and lunch, we had physical education with
Ms. Lovan.
When students returned, we began learning about money. We
discussed the penny and the nickel today. We noticed that the penny has a maple
leaf and the nickel has a beaver on it. We know that a penny is worth 1 cent
and a nickel is worth 10 cents. We practiced counting pennies and nickels
today.
We then continued working on our summative project.
After second recess and lunch, we practiced making
text-to-text connections. We first discussed what a text to self connection is:
What does the reading remind you of? Can you relate to the characters in the
story? Does anything in the text remind you of something in your own life? We
then figured out that a text-to-text connection is making connections between
two books: What does this remind you of in another book you have read? How is
this text similar to others things you have read? How is this text different
from other things you have read?
We did a text-to-text connection between Chocolate Fever and
A Bad Case Of Stripes. While we were reading through the book, we discussed
what was the same and what was different between the two books. Tomorrow we
will work on a Venn diagram organizing our ideas.
We also learned very important lessons from A Bad Case Of Stripes:
-there is nothing wrong with being different
-our differences make us unique and special
-we should tell the truth
Great understanding of the story friends! You are right, it
is always important to be you and celebrate your differences! You are all
special!
After, Manny performed some great action, explaining how he
is helping sell various products! He wears various clothing that has different
kinds of logos and he recognizes that in doing so, he is helping sell their
product.
Karina explained that when Manny is walking around
wearing a logo on his clothes, when someone sees it and likes what he is
wearing, they would go to that store and buy it.
Afterwards, Manny also shared with us how he is a walking
billboard for St. Jude’s whenever he wears his uniform outside of school. He
explains that when wearing the St. Jude’s uniform he is promoting others to
come to our school.
Great media literacy!
We then had Avaneesh share a book about the solar system. He
informed us about many cool and interesting facts about various planets! He is
very knowledgeable about our universe! Great job Avaneesh!
Have a great night!
