Terrific Tuesday!
We began the da having French with Mdm. Stella.
We then move onto UOI. We discussed the importance of a
frame to help support an object. We looked at a frame for a tent and discussed
how the poles help to support the tent. We also talked about the different
materials a tent can be made from; nylon, mesh, and plastic. We then looked at
a frame for a car and then a house. After, we defined ‘structure’: the support
frame of an object. We have begun a book of definitions so that we are able to
understand all of the important words through out our unit. We defined
material: what the object is made from; object: a thing; structure: the support
frame of an object.
After, we were off to Art with Ms. Kerr.
Following second recess and lunch, we began our new Math
unit: Exploring Addition and Subtraction. We looked a picture in the Big Math
Book of people at a fair. We discussed various addition and subtraction stories
that we could come up with. After, we discussed various addition and
subtraction strategies that we can use: counting on/back, look for doubles and
near doubles, using fact families. We did some examples as a class and then
moved on to working in our Math books.
After, we wrote an assessment for Ms. Jaskolka so she can
better understand how to teach us about writing into the second term.
When we were finished, we began our new novel study, Freckle
Juice. We made predictions about the book today:
I predict that Freckle Juice is about…
I predict that Freckle Juice will…
At the end of the day, we practiced for the Christmas
concert. We worked together to decide the actions that we will have in our
song.
