Fantastic Friday!

We began the day with math. We learned about GCF (greatest common factor) and LCM (lowest common multiple)
:

Greatest Common Factor:The greatest number that is a factor of two (or more) other numbers. When we find all the factors of two or more numbers, and some factors are the same ("common"), then the largest

Lowest Common Multiple:the smallest number that is the multiple of
two or more other numbers.

We also learned about abundant, deficient and perfect numbers:

abundant number
• a number that is smaller than the sum of its proper divisors.
• proper divisors are all the positive divisors of a number,
except the number itself.
EXAMPLE: 12

Ms. Jaskolka then gave us a challenge to find the next perfect number and we figured out that it is 28!!!!

Next, we worked on questions related to finding the greatest common factor and the lowest common multiple.

After we explored conductors and insulters through an experiment. We tested various materials to find out which would act as a conductor (would allow electricity to flow and light up the bulb) or an insulator (would stop the flow of electricity and the bulb would not light up.) Check it out!!

After first recess and lunch we had our Terry Fox run.

Sethumi also shared action about neutrons and the important role that they play in the nucleus. Here is a reading to help gain a better understanding:

Then we began a new art project.

Zentangle Pinwheels
Zentangles are intricate designs built up by completing small areas of pattern at a time. It’s a kind of doodling but with a consistent look. Relaxation and focus is part of the technique.
Students will be using Zentangles to decorate their pinwheel. On one side of the pinwheel, students will choose 4 geometric Zentangle patterns. On the other side, students will contrast their Zentangle with a free-flowing, non-geometric design as a contrast.
As students complete each section, they will reflect on the elements and principles of design that makes up their pattern.
Students will then assemble their pinwheel, appreciate how beautiful it looks, and explain how it connects to our electricity UOI.

Here are two videos to help students pick designs for their Zentangle.

We will begin this art project that relates to our UOI unit (wind energy) next week.

Homework:

1. Read Daily
2. Math pg. 16 and 17 Questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9
3. Mind Map due Monday
4. 3 similes
