Wonderful Wednesday!!

We began the day joining Ms. Haag’s class and learning more about the year ahead. We discussed the importance of having a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. For example: I will never be able to open my lock (fixed mindset) versus I may not be able to open my lock now but I will keep trying until I can (growth mindset). All the Grade 6 students showed a growth mindset with learning how to open their lockers!! The students tried and tried until they were able to open their locks on their own. Way to go Grade 6s!

We talked about how our schedule will run on a 6 day cycle (today is day 1, tomorrow is day 2, Friday is day 3, and Monday is day 4 …) We will have gym every other day and music every other day. Our class schedule is posted at the bottom of this blog.

We also began talking about exhibition! How exciting!! Some of the item we discussed about exhibition:

THE EXHIBITION IS:
·       A GROUP INQUIRY
·       AN INQUIRY THAT STARTS FROM PERSONAL INTEREST AND PASSIONS, BUT EXTENDS INTO REAL WORLD LOCAL AND GLOBAL ISSUES
·       AN INQUIRY THAT REQUIRES STUDENTS TO APPLY THEIR LEARNING FROM PREVIOUS YEARS

We began talking about exhibition today so that we know the expectations for our Grade 6 year.

Next, we played a fun get to know you game called fact or fiction. Each of us came up with two statements about ourselves that are true and one that is not, and our classmates needed to figure out which statements were true and which one was false! This was such a fun way for us to get to know each other better!

Then students had recess and lunch.

After we had French with Mdm. Stella.

Next we worked in groups to brainstorm some important rules we want to have for our class. As a class, we agreed on the rules that we want to have in our class and will transfer them into our essential agreement.

Then we dove into some writing. This term we will be learning about different forms of writing; we are beginning with poetry. We looked at an action word poem on chart paper and we discussed what we noticed. We came to realize that an action word poem includes verbs about a specific topic. Tomorrow we will create our own action word poem on a topic of our choosing.

Next, we talked about the learner profiles and the attitudes. At our school we strive to be internationally minded students and we do this through the learner profiles and the attitudes. We chose a learner profile or attitude and we began creating a poster for it that will be displayed in the class as a reminder of the attributes we all strive to embody each day.

At the end of the day we kicked off the new year with an exciting house game! Check it out!!!

Have a great evening and see you all tomorrow for another exciting day of learning!!
