Wonderful Wednesday!

We began the day writing our review for our math test on Monday. We will continue to work on our review tomorrow in class.

Then we got into our literature circles and fulfilled our specific roles within our groups for chapter 5. Students are really getting the hang of each of the different roles and having very meaningful conversations and insights about the book! The question still remains, where is the box with the instructions and is there anything out there in the unknown regions? We need to keep reading to find out!

Next we began learning about generating stations. We performed research using our notes and Grade 6 Electricity Production Guide by the OPG
(Ontario Power Generation) to answer questions about electrical transformations and the four OPG generating stations: Hydroelectric, nuclear, thermal and wind turbines. We will get to know more about all four generating stations and how they work.

On October 02, the Grade 6s will be writing a unit test on all they have learned during the electricity unit. Steps that students should take when they are studying for a test:

1.       Read through your notes at least 3 times. Go back and watch videos that were posted to the blog.
2.      Make notes about your reading. Refer back to your notes if you cannot remember anything. More rereading may be required.
3.       Make doodles or a mind map to represent your understanding
4.       Explain concepts to someone
5.       Ask a family member to quiz you
6.       Repeat steps as necessary

Scientist we have learned about so far:

Galvani, Volta, Edison, Hans Christian Ørsted, Studley, Faraday

 We have learned about:

-forms of energy
-electric circuits (parallel and series) - how they work and symbols and terms associated with circuits
-energy transformations
-conductors and insulators
-trouble-shooting
-electrical safety
-static electricity
-magnets and magnetism

Magnets:

After first recess and lunch we had French.

Then we had another exciting fall fundraising assembly where students who raised the most Monday for today were able to put make-up on Mr. Oliver's face!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow is Wacky Thursday!!! Looking forward to this!!!

When we returned from the fall fundraising assembly, we continued working on reading and answering questions on the OPG guide as well as adding the scientists we have learned about to our timeline.

We also had some action stars!!!

Sethumi explained to us why a compass always points north and how to see the magnetic field of a magnet.

Dhruv shared a fun fact about magnets!

After second recess and lunch we had physical education.

Homework:

1. Read Daily
2. Math test Monday (after working on today's review, students should be practicing concepts that they continue to have any difficulty with)
3. Mind Map due Monday
4. Read chapter 6 and role
5. Ensure all 6 scientists are on your timeline
6. Answer questions 1-10 using the OPG guide
7. Laptops are needed tomorrow
8. Wacky Thursday tomorrow
