We began the day with Music.

We began the day with Math. We continued learning about squaring, square numbers and square roots. We took up the homework as a class and answered any misconceptions. We also worked on problem solving questions in groups to get a better understanding of squaring, square numbers and square roots.

A Square Number is When the quotient is equal to the divisor, the dividend is a square number
49÷7=7

Square:The square of a number is the number times itself. For example, the square of 3 is 3x3. The square of 4 is 4x4.

Squaring: When we multiply a number by itself, we square the number.
Squaring: 7x7 = 49
So 7²=49

Square rootThe square root is just the opposite of the square. You can think of it as the "root" of the square or the number that was used to make the square.

√49 = √ 7²

=7

The square root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself, gives the number.

Example: 4 × 4 = 16, so a square root of 16 is 4.
We worked on problem solving questions related to squares and square roots.

Example: 4 × 4 = 16, so a square root of 16 is 4.

After first recess and lunch we had French.

Then we reviewed our understanding about electricity and how to write a proper letter. Next, we were given various electricity problems and we needed to use our trouble shooting skills to figure out why a particular circuit was not working. Next, Mr. Ohm faces us with a challenge. He wrote a letter asking us to fix a night light for his daughter. Our job as trouble shooting experts, is to write a letter back to him, explaining how he can fix the night light for his daughter.

After second recess and lunch, Ms. Jaskolka explained that we will be working in literature circles. Each day we will have a role: Discussion Director, Literary Luminary, Connector, Illustrator/Mapper or Word wizard. Within our literature circles we will share the information related to our role. Today students were given their first role. They are to complete the activity for their designated role and come to school tomorrow ready to discuss their information with their group.

Discussion Director: Manny, Khooshali, Sethumi
Literary Luminary: Chesley, Shane, Aarnav
Connector: Srimanya, Liliana, William
Illustrator/Mapper: Elina, Scott, Surkhab
Word Wizard: Ronit, Dhruv, Elena

Next, we talked about idioms. We learned that idioms are old sayings that give advice or help people with living their life. We learning that idioms are wise sayings that offer advice about how to live and also transfer some underlying ideas, principles and values of a given culture / society. We also discussed that idioms have a "figurative meaning" meaning, they basically work with "pictures".

Our idiom for today: down to the wire
Students are asked to inquire about what this idiom means. I look forward to our discussion tomorrow!
