Marvelous Monday!

Actions star: Saanvi had a garbageless lunch today!! Teni also let us know that when she goes to Shoppers Drug Mart with her mom, they walk instead of driving. Great ways to help the planet!

We began the day having art with Mr. Monaghan and physical education with Ms. Lovan.

When students returned, we watched a video that taught us more how to reuse, reduce, and recycle when shopping. We learned that it is best to buy tomatoes on a vine instead of wrapped in plastic and in Styrofoam so we are reducing our waste. As well, it is best to buy in bulk (such as cereal) in order to reduce our waste. Specifically, it is much better to buy a cereal box made out of cardboard that has very little plastic because cardboard can decompose a lot quicker. We then wrote about the various ways we help our environment at home in our Flip Flap Books.

After we began our new unit for Math: 2-D Geometry. We looked at the big math book and discussed the various shapes that we saw and explained how we knew (I know it is a triangle because it has 3 edges and 3 vertices.) We then looked at another page of the big math book and solved riddles about 2-D shapes (I have six sides. Who am I? I am a hexagon; I have 4 sides. I am longer than I am wide. Who am I? I am a rectangle).  We then made pictures using 2-D shapes.

Then we explored where we see a circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, octagons, hexagons, and pentagons in the world. After, we looked at a picture in our math books and coloured the shapes we saw according to the colour code (colour a figure with 3 sides red; colour a figure with 4 vertices blue; colour a pentagon green; colour a hexagon purple.)

After first recess and lunch we practiced our reading comprehension reading two passages about Earth Day and ways that we can help our planet. We made sure to answer the questions in full sentences and with detail. We also need to remember that when answering reading comprehension we are looking for proof from the passage.

After second recess and lunch, we wrote out our words from unit 28 and showed our understanding in our spelling books.

At the end of the day we finished our Reading Comprehension.

Homework:
1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.     Reading Comprehension due tomorrow

3.     Casual Day Wednesday
