We began the day having an exciting house game to kick off our spring fundraiser!!

We then had Art with Mr. Monaghan.

After, students wrote out their words for Lesson 26 and showed their understanding in their Spelling books.

In Math, we began unit 8: Linear Measurement, Area, and Perimeter. We looked at the Big Math Book and discussed why it is important to measure and what are some ways that we can measure (using a ruler, paperclips, string, our arms.) We then used paperclips to measure the width (shorter) and length (longer) of our desks and recorded our answers in our Math Books. After, we chose 2 objects to measure and we used paperclips, erasers, and pencils to measure each one. When we use different methods of measurements we noticed that our answers could change depending on how long or short the unit of measurement is.

We also began our new unit of inquiry, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We put together an earth day lap book and flip flap book that we will be working on the next few weeks in order to learn the various ways that we can help protect and take care of our earth.

After first recess and lunch we had French. After French we wrote our homework in our agendas and continued working on our lap books and flip flap books.

After second recess and lunch we finished putting together our lap books and flap flap books. Then we had a discussion about what we already know about Earth Day and the ways that we keep our earth clean. Next we began reading a book about Earth Day to better understand how it all began and why this day is so important. We learned that Earth day began in the United States in …but did not become a worldwide celebration of earth until 1999. This happened because more and more people were realizing that people were not treating the planet how they should and there was too much pollution (examples: oil spills, garbage, smoke from factories). We will continue reading this book through out the week so we can become more knowledgeable about Earth Day and be able to teach the others about this significant day.
