Marvelous Monday!

This morning students had art with Mr. Monaghan and physical education with Ms. Lovan.

When students returned we reviewed the summative assessment for our unit of inquiry that students will begin on Wednesday. Students will be working on the assessments in class. A rubric and an outline of the assignment are going home today. We then worked on a Venn diagram, finding comparisons and differences between Mississauga and India. We focused on food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and recreation.

During math, we created number line mysteries for our friends. Students were given a number line up to 50 and asked to cover up five numbers. Their partner needed to figure out which numbers were missing and explain how they know (ex: I know number 16 is missing because 16 comes before 17 and after 15). Students then worked on a number line activity in their Math Makes Sense. Afterwards, we used our number line to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

During first recess, Klara was teaching the students some Karate and how to count to 10 in Korean.

After first recess, students went off to French.

When students returned, they wrote their homework in their agendas.

After second recess and lunch, students wrote out their spelling words for unit 4 and demonstrated their understanding of each word in their spelling workbooks.

We then continued learning about Daily 5. This week we will be focusing on writing. On the board, ‘work on writing’ was modeled for the students.  We learned that we work on writing by thinking about our ideas; it was modeled for the student what happens in a writer’s head. As we came to words that we were not sure of how to spell, they were underlined and the writing continued. It is important to move on when a word may be too difficult to spell so we can maintain the flow in writing and not lose our thoughts; we will come back to the words we are unsure of how to spell after we have finished writing down all our thoughts and ideas.

Homework:

1.     Read for twenty minutes. Choose an IPICK book.
2.     Sign Spelling Test
3.     Sign math Test

4.     Look over UOI assessment
