Terrific Tuesday!
***Casual Day
tomorrow***
*** On Friday we will
be creating posters about Japan and students are asked to bring in 2 pictures
of:
Food
Shelter
Clothing
Transportation
So each student will
need 8 pictures all together.
Students can also
bring in 2 other pictures related to Japan but they need at least 8 from the
above list.
Please make sure
these pictures are not too large because we want to try and fit them on two
pieces of construction paper. ***
We began the day having art with Mr. Monaghan and then
physical education with Ms. Lovan.
Afterwards we had our Sorting and Patterning Test. I will
return them tomorrow.
We then continued our inquiry into Venice. We imagined that
we were visiting Venice and we wrote a postcard to someone living in
Mississauga, letting them know about all our experiences; we focused on three
differences between Venice and Mississauga that we learned yesterday.
Mme. Stella was away today, so after first recess and lunch
we worked on a Sorting and Patterning post assessment and then a pre assessment
for our next math unit, Number Relationships. We then continued finishing up
our postcards.
During Writing, we each took what we learned from yesterday
about brainstorming and created our own about everything that we could remember
learning in our unit of inquiry so far.
After second recess and lunch we began our launch into the
Daily 5. When reading a book, it is important first to know how to read a book.
We learned that the three ways are:
1. Read the pictures: we read the story by looking at the
pictures and describing everything that we see. We answered who, what, where,
when, why and how when looking at the pictures. For example, we looked at
facial expressions and tried to figure out why certain characters were happy or
sad.
2. Read the words: we read the story using words, and this
way we were able to better understand what was happening in the pictures as
well as the story. We learned that the pictures and words work together to create
a deeper understanding of what is happening in the book. Sometimes what we see in the pictures is not
told in words and sometimes when reading words, the pictures may not always
match.
3. Retell the story: We will work on this area next time we
have Daily 5. Here it will be modeled for students how to retell a story by
going through each page and using the pictures and what we remember from the
story.
Homework:

A duo tang was sent home today with some of the
student’s work and a rubric with each one. Please sign the rubric and bring
