Fantastic Friday!
Summative projects went home yesterday along with the rubric. Students are to create their own mechanism using at least one simple machine. Students are to create something that does not already exist and needs to have a purpose/function for humans. These are to be completed at home and on February 17 students will present their mechanism to the class. Students are also to complete the writing portion at home.
Students are asked to have their Poems memorized by Monday.
We have an Action star!!
Krina made a lever at home
and brought it to share with the class! Each student had the opportunity to
test the catapult she made. Great action Krina!!
We began the day writing our homework in our agendas and
then finishing up some writing activities from yesterday.
Look at what a caring and loving group of grade 2’s we all
are:
We then had physical education with Mr. Slyk.
After we were able to enjoy our yummy pancake breakfast!!
Students then wrote their unit 17 spelling test.
After students wrote a pre-assessment for our new math unit
about 3-D shapes.
For UOI, students finished working on their inclined plane experiments
from yesterday. Students wrote about which surface the toy car travelled
farthest and on which surface it travelled the least. Students determined that
the toy car travelled farther on the wax paper and white paper because there is
less friction on these two surfaces and it travelled the least on the aluminum
foil and sand paper because they both had lots of friction that held the toy
car back.
After first recess and lunch, we continued working on
writing explanations. Students’ will invent their own toy and explain it to
someone who has never seen or played with it before. We made a brainstorm about
what is important to include in an explanation for a new toy:
Students were then off to French.
After second recess and lunch, students had the opportunity to
present their poem with expression, volume, and pronouncing the words
correctly.
At the end of the day, the students did some Word Work. Students were given a
Valentines Day challenge. Students tried to come up with as many words as they
could using the letters in Valentines Day!
