Marvelous Monday!
There will be a special casual day for
Ms. DaCosta, Ms. Smith and Ms. Jaskolka's classes on Wednesday because we
missed casual day due to our Science Centre trip
We now have a new schedule!!
We began the day writing our
homework in our agendas.
We were then off to physical
education with Mr. Slyk.
When students returned they worked
on their lesson 17 spelling words and then cursive.
After first recess and lunch we
dove into Math. Today, students began playing a game of probability using
numbers. Students will be using two decks of numeral cards from 0-10. They will
pick two cards and then compare the sum to the number given by Ms. Jaskolka;
students will determine if the sum is less than their given number, equal to,
or greater than. In order to better understand what was being asked of us, we
looked at this visual as a class to help us:
We discussed as a class, if we were
given the number 1 or 5, our chances would be greater of getting a sum larger
then 1 or 5. However, when the numbers become bigger, we noticed that our
chances became less and less. For example, if we were given the number 19, we
would only have one chance of getting a sum greater than 19.
We did some examples together:
Students were then put into groups
of 2 and they were each given a number from 9-15. Students wrote out their
prediction using this number. They needed to determine if they thought most
sums would be greater or less than their number.
Tomorrow, students will play this
game with their partner.
Then students had French.
After second recess and lunch, we
got the chance to make our own pulley! Ms. Jaskolka guided us through how to
make our pulley and then we were able to test it with our partners; we each had
a chance to use the pulley to understand the mechanics behind it.
At the end of the day, some
students had the chance to present their poem using volume and emotion. Everyone will get a chance some time this week.
