Regarding summative
projects:
Four students were able
to present today. I wanted to post the videos but the files are too big, so I
will make a private YouTube account and post the link tomorrow on my blog :)
Regarding Poems:
Students will be presenting
their poems tomorrow in class. Please remind students that before presenting
their poem, to begin with the title of the poem first.
Reminders:
1. Movie night money is due
tomorrow
2. Lunch forms are due
tomorrow
We began the day writing our homework in
our agendas and then finishing off our Simple Machines flip flap books.
Students then had gym with Mr. Slyk.
When students returned, we spent an hour on
Math today. What we focused on today was making a recognizing the skeleton of
3-D shapes. Students used straws and play dough to make a skeleton of a cube
and then a shape of their choice. Students came to understand that the straws represented
the edges of the shape, and the play dough represented the vertices. Students
then wrote tips for a friend as to how they would go about building these
shapes with straws and play dough. They also realized that we would not be able
to make a skeleton for a sphere and cylinder because they do not have straight
edges or vertices. When students were done, they needed to match the 3-D shape
to the skeleton of the 3-D shape and explain how they knew their answer was
correct (ex: I know this is a skeleton for a pyramid because it has 5 vertices
and 8 edges; it has 4 triangular faces and one square/rectangular face.
After first recess and lunch, students had
Music and then French.
Following second recess and lunch, students
were very excited to present their mechanisms for our Simple Machines Unit.
Students came up with inventive and creative mechanism! Grade job Grade 2’s!!
The rest of the class will present tomorrow.
