Tremendous Tuesday!!!

We began the day with a fun Pancake eating contest for Pancake Tuesday!

Then we moved onto math.

Learning Goal: multiply decimals with hundredths

Today in math we learned how to use percents to find how much an item would cost if it is on sale and how much tax we would pay using our knowledge of percents and how to convert percents into fractions and decimals. We went through some examples as a class and reminded ourselves how to multiply using decimals. We then did questions on our own.

Success Criteria:
-I can find the percent of a number by writing the percent as a decimal and then multiplying
-I can properly multiply to find my answer
-I understand that the number of decimal places in the product should be the same as the total number of decimal places in the question

Then we had French.

After first recess and lunch we began writing our UOI test about Canada and the World.

Then we had Music.

When we returned, we finished writing our UOI test about Canada and the World.

After second recess and lunch we brainstormed what we thought would be needed to begin and create an NGO. We then looked at what Craig accomplished and the things he did to help children all around the world. We were then told we are creating our own NGO!
Ms. Jaskolka told us that“Disease prevention is a world-wide concern and many organizations just like ours have worked on many activist campaigns. Our organization however has been given the opportunity to have a direct impact on preventing diseases that affect our local and international communities - specifically, locally West Nile and internationally Malaria. The World Health Organization (WHO) has asked our organization to present our action plan to the United Nations. Our action plans have to be organized and ready to go tomorrow end of day.”
“We will have both a local and an international group. Each group will have a think tank, a social action team, an advertising team and a fundraising team. Each team is responsible for giving information to other team members and is responsible for putting together one portion of our plan. To assist you, I have given each team a briefing package that includes what you are expected to do.”

Tonight, students are going to go over the package to understand the expectations related to their role in our NGO and tomorrow they will meet with their group to discuss further.
At the end of the day, we added any new topics for Exhibition to our brainstorms and then eliminated any we found might be difficult for perform action and that our topics are age-appropriate.

Have a great night!
