Fantastic Friday!!

Country Holiday Presentation:

Students will choose a country (this can be from their own culture) and research a celebration within this country. They are to include:

1. The dates of the celebration
2. Important people who are responsible for the celebration/important people that are a part of this celebration
3. A symbol associated with this celebration (Ex: Christmas – a Christmas tree)
4. 2 facts about this celebration
5. A gift giving tradition within this country
6. 2-3 other traditions in this country

Students are to do the research at home and they will do the writing portion at school Monday, March 2, 2015. They will present on
Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

We began the day with our spelling test and then working on our cursive.

After we had physical education with Ms. Lovan.

When students returned we did our presentations for our Family Tree and explained the symbols that we chose for our families. Ms. Jaskolka tried uploading the videos but they are not working so she will email each parent with the presentations.

After we read chapter 4 of Freckle Juice. Andrew got really sick from drinking the Freckle Juice that he needed to stay home from school! Andrew did not want to go back to school when he got better but his mom told him if he did not, then he would need to take 3 baths a day, every day, for 10 years!! He reluctantly got ready for school.

After first recess and lunch we had French.

After French we wrote our homework in our agendas and then completed any unfinished work.

After second recess and lunch, we read the last chapter of Freckle Juice. Andrew ended up putting blue marker on his face so that he could have freckles. When he got to school the other kids were laughing at him. Ms. Kelly was so nice that she made “a secret formula” to remove freckles. He went to the washroom and washed them off. Nicky then wanted to use the “secret formula” to get rid of his freckles but Ms. Kelly said he looked wonderful just the way he was!

Homework:

2.     Information for holiday Monday
3.     Sign rubric

Terrific Thursday!

Family Tree Presentation:

Students are to complete the two sheets that went home Monday. Students are to fill out the family tree sheet and be prepared to present tomorrow. Students are also asked to come up with another symbol to represent their family tree. They are to draw this symbol on the blank sheet going home and fit all their family members on it (only immediate family: brother, sister, mother, father); students will explain why they chose their symbol to the class during their short presentation. An example: My family likes to go camping a lot and we use the canoe to go fishing so I decided to use a canoe as a symbol for my family and put all my family members on each paddle.

Country Celebration Presentation:

Students will choose a country (this can be from their own culture) and research a celebration within this country. They are to include:

1. The dates of the celebration
2. Important people who are responsible for the celebration/important people that are a part of this celebration
3. A symbol associated with this celebration (Ex: Christmas – a Christmas tree)

Students are to do the research at home and they will do the writing portion at school Monday, March 2, 2015. They will present on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

We began the day watching the poetry contest. All the students did a fantastic job!!! Klara won first place from all the Grade 2’s!!

After the contest, we had Math. We looked at picture of a spaceship in the Big Math Book. We noticed the various 3-D shapes that were being used. We then built our own space ship using  play dough; we needed to make sure that we used the exact same shapes as the astronauts did.

After first recess and lunch, we wrote our homework in our agendas. We then went to watch the speeches in the gym.

After second recess and lunch, we wrote a story about our favourite celebration. We needed to ensure that we gave information about the celebration and that our story had a beginning, middle, and end.

Homework:

1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.     Family Tree Presentation tomorrow
3.     Information for celebration due Monday
4.     Sign Rubric
5.     Math Test Tuesday

Wonderful Wednesday!!

We began the day summarizing chapter one of Freckle Juice and then reading chapter 2. Andrew brought the money to give to Sharon and she gave him the recipe for freckle juice!!!

After, we had physical education with Ms. Jaskolka.

During UOI, we wrote about our favourite cultural celebration.

During Math, we needed to figure out the number of faces, vertices, and edges that each 3-D shape has without using the solids; we were only able to use the picture of the 3-D shapes. Doing this, we are practicing for our math test on Tuesday.

After first recess and lunch, we had French. When students returned, they wrote their homework in their agendas and then continued writing their good copies for their critters.

After second recess and lunch, we read chapter 3 of Freckle Juice. Andrew actually made the Freckle Juice and drank it!! We are excited and curious to know if it will actually work and give him freckles!!

At the end of the day, we went into the gym and watched Klara, Tristan, and Jallone practice for the poetry contest tomorrow.

Homework:

1.     Read for 20 minutes
2.     Family  tree presentation Friday
3.     Information about country celebration due Monday
4.     Math Test Tuesday

5.     Poetry Contest tomorrow

We then watched three videos to learn more about the symbols of Canada and what makes Canada so special.

During Math, we made a skeleton for various 3-D shapes. First we began with the cube.  Students used marshmallows for the vertices and toothpicks for the edges. Students then explained how they chose to make the cube in their math books. Students then made skeletons for a triangular prism and pyramid; they  explained their thinking.

After first recess and lunch we had French. After, we wrote our homework and then practiced counting the edges, vertices, and faces on 3-D shapes.

After second recess and lunch, we made any corrections to our critter explanations and then began the good copy.

At the end of the day we read a book as a class and practiced Reading Comprehension. We read The Day before Thanksgiving and then we each answered what was an important event in the story and why.
