Tremendous Tuesday!

Due on Thursday:
Summative project: Students are to create their own mechanism using at least one simple machine. Students are to create something that does not already exist and needs to have a purpose/function for humans. These are to be completed at home and on February 18 students will present their mechanism to the class. Students are also to complete the writing portion at home.

We began the day writing our homework in our agenda and writing out lesson 19 words.

We then had gym with Mr. Slyk.

After, we continued working on our Simple Machines Flip Flap Book to show our understanding of our current unit of inquiry.

For Math, we were given another building challenge, paying attention to 3-D shapes that are the best to build with. We have come to the conclusion that cubes and rectangular prisms are the best shapes to build with because they have flat surfaces all around, so more shapes can be put under, in front, on top, and beside. We know that spheres are not the best shape to build with because they will roll away. We can stack using cylinders but only under and on top because they have curved surfaces. We can stack using pyramids and triangular prisms, but we can only put them at the top of our structure because of the points or vertices at the top. Here we are completing our building challenge in groups:

Students then showed their understanding in their math books. Students determined between three different choices, which one would make the best house. Students then drew how this house would appear only using the shapes given.

After first recess and lunch, students had Music.

Students then had French.

After second recess and lunch, students completed their lesson 19 spelling work.
