Tremendous Tuesday!!

We began the day with Math. We began our new unit on Geometry. As a class, we examined a picture of some friends at the beach. Students noticed many things related to geometry!!! They noticed that there were many 2-D and 3-D shapes and they were able to name some of the shapes that they recognized. It was so nice hear the students using their knowledge from our structures unit: I notice that the kids are using cylinders for their sandcastle because cylinders are strong 3-D shapes! Way to go, Grade 2’s!
When looking at the shapes we noticed their attributes: number of sides and vertices (points).
Students then played a guessing game using shapes in partners. Students described shapes using their attributes and their partner needed to be a detective and figure out the shape!
Hints:
-How many sides does my shape have?
-Are their curved sides? Straight sides?
-How many sides are the same?
-Are there__ # of short/long sides?

We were also introduced to the term parallel and we discussed the use of the hatch marks and arrows on diagrams. We learned that arrows show parallel lines, and hatch marks indicate what lines are the same size.

Next we had French and then Gym.

After first recess and lunch we continued with our math lesson.

Next Ali and Meekaal presented their bridges to the class.
